If I respect myself and believe in what I’m doing, no one can touch me.
Last night I saw Fiona Apple sing. It was beautiful and raw and everything you would expect from a Fiona Apple concert.
I fell in love with her music lifetimes ago. I was student teaching 3rd and 4th graders in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was confused about my future. Many days I was confused about my present.
I listened to her debut CD over and over and over again, (especially this song) feeling comfort in the fact that someone else was just as confused as I was.
I don’t think there is anything I love quite as much as self expression. To see bold self expression performed, on stage, in front of hundreds of people. That is humbling. Goosebump raising. Inspiring. And brings tears to my eyes every time I am granted the gift of witnessing it.
Thank you Fiona Apple. You are so brave, so real and so generous to share your soul with all of us. It’s true, no one can touch you.
Today, take a chance with your own self expression. Grab your journal, your canvas, your pen. Feel. Express. Create.
Know that if you respect yourself and believe in what you are doing, no one can touch you.
What are you hungry to share?
