Many of you are bracing for a storm as Hurricane Sandy threatens the East Coast of the United States. Some of you are already feeling the effects of the storm with children home from school, offices closed, transportation shut down.
Here in Ohio I won’t be seeing any dramatic weather, but there will be lots of rain. While we aren’t gathering supplies or bracing ourselves for power-outages or floods, the idea of living through life’s storms is something I think about a lot.
Sometimes it feels like I’m always faced with storms of one kind or another — sick children, work deadlines, a leaking roof, family conflicts. Even the positives can feel like a storm. Don’t we get rattled by children’s birthdays, busy social calendars and holidays?
The challenge lies in staying true to yourself, your goals, your work and your values even in the midst of storms.
Sometimes the storms are small. Sometimes they are the big news story of the week. No matter, there is always serenity to find while huddling together inside out of the rain.
I will be thinking of all of my friends on the East Coast, sending you peace amid the storm.
